I’ve been out planting seeds this morning. I planted sunflowers a few weeks ago and was very happy to see them pop out of the ground only a few days later, and then they were all eaten by snails. Grr.
So I’ve planted more. I have a lot of seeds because I saved them from the sunflowers I planted last year, which means I can afford to lose a few to snails. But you can be sure that I’ll be buying coffee when I next go shopping (coffee is poisonous to snails and slugs). And as I was walking around with my watering can, giving the seeds a soak, my thoughts turned to the TPP. It’s not as big a leap as you might think–saving seeds is something which is common to both gardeners and farmers the world over, and with the trade agreement having been apparently rushed through, I’m concerned about how this will affect our agricultural sector, and the environment, as well as a host of other areas.
It’s been a busy weekend, with soccer for First Offspring yesterday as well as visiting some friends on their farm in the afternoon. Today has so far been about sleeping in, eating chocolate chip biscuits and Haribo Goldbears, and drinking tea. My Offspring came in to cuddle me before I got out of bed and they had all made me a card for Mother’s Day (we don’t really do presents in our family for these kinds of celebrations). Now they’re watching a movie, and shortly, I plan to head out for a run with the dog. As far as weekends go, I’m chalking this one up as successful! Hope yours is too. Enjoy the links!
These titles are getting to be a bit of a stretch, aren’t they? Haha.
It’s been a hot week for us here in Western Australia. Apparently the north of the state missed out on their hottest day since records began by just 0.2 of a degree. I’m sure the people living there felt the difference! Even here on the south coast it was warmer than usual. I wonder what it will be like in five or ten years, when we’ve completely changed our approach to global warming and are all on renewable, sustainable energy? (Well, I can dream, can’t I?)
Hope your Sunday is an interesting one – I’m off to have a cup of tea and a piece of banana-berry-bread with the Handsome Sidekick!
